FAQ - Media Department

Does the Library Have Any Books on Tape /Audio Books?

No, BUT, we do have three hundred (300+) music CD’s, four hundred (400+) DVD’s (mostly current films and the film classics), three thousand and eight hundred (3,800+) videotapes (class work and films) and five thousand (5,000+) LP’s (that’s long playing phonograph records for those under 21 years). And much, much more.Except for the oldest of the LP's, all of these media items are listed in Voyager at http://tejas.mwsu.edu.There is a preselected limit in the <Quick Limits> box on the left of the Voyager screen that will let you search for videos or DVDs exclusively. You can also search for different types of media by using the <Set Limits> box on the right hand side of the Voyager screen.

Most media can be checked out by a student for seven (7) days and then renewed once.Unlike most other items, there is a limit on how many media items (only five (5) total), a student, staff, or faculty member can check outClick here to view the different circulation policies at http://library.mwsu.edu/policies/circpol.asp

How Can I Find Out What Popular Movies the Library Has on Either Videocassette/DVD?

All of the titles of our videocassettes and DVDs are listed in Voyager. If you want to check on a particular title, you can type the title into Voyager and check to see if that particular type is available. If you want to see a complete list of all popular motion pictures that the library has, use Voyager.Starting from Moffett Library’s homepage, click on “Search the Library Catalog.”Type in the term "feature films", limit it to <Videocassettes> in the <Quick Limits> box, and select <Subject>

The list that appears will be an alphabetical list of the titles of feature films that Moffett Library owns.As you go through the list and selected items you want, remember to note the call numbers, if the item is a videocassette or a DVD, and whether or not it is already checked out.

How Can I Find Out if There Are Any Computer Laptops, Etc? Available to Be Checked Out?

The Library has ten (10) laptops with Microsoft IE5, Microsoft Office 2000, and a link to the MSUnet that can be checked out to students, staff, and faculty. They cannot be checked out to TexShare or area users. They are available on a first come, first serve basis and cannot be reserved ; thus, you may want tocheck to see if the laptops are here before driving up to the library. You can call the Media department at 940-397-4696 or the Reference department at 940-397-4758.However, you can also check for yourself.Starting from the Moffett Library’s homepage, click on “Search the Library Catalog.”Type in the term "media equipment" and select <Title>.The screen that appears will list what items are current checked out, when they are due back, and if they are overdue. If there are not ten (10) laptops already checked out, there should be some available.

If you are still not sure whether there is a laptop, a camera, a tape recorder, or a digital projector available, call either the Media or Reference departments for help.

How Can I Request That the Media Department Make a Telecourse Tape for Me?

There are a number of classes (Telecourse classes) that are taught via television broadcast on the MSU campus television Channel 2.If a student is unable to get that television channel on their TV or if they miss taping a lesson, the Media department will make a temporary videocassette of the lesson that the student can check out for one week. The rules for this procedure are described in the student’s packet that they pick up during registration and they are also listed on the Media Department’s web page http://library.mwsu.edu/departments/media.asp

In addition, copies of each of the telecourse lessons are kept in the library for you to view. Each lesson is on a separate tape, kept "On-Reserve" at the Circulation Desk, and may be viewed on the videocassette players upstairs in the Media Department. These tapes are library use only and can be checked out for a 2-hour time period.

Why is the Video Tape I Want Listed as Being on Reserve for 2 Hours?

Any book/media item in the library’s collection can be placed on reserve for a semester at a time by a faculty member who requests it.That is usually done to insure that all members of a class can view the particular item.If the media item you want shows that it is on reserve in Voyager, ask for it at the Circulation Department instead of at the Media Department. You will still be able to view the tape in the building for up to 2-hours at a time but you cannot check it out of the building on a regular seven (7) day checkout while it is “on reserve”.
