FAQ – Collection Development Department

How Do I Order a Book/Item for the Library Collection? (For Faculty Members)

Faculty members who wish to order books, journals or media items for their classes can request that the library liaison for their department send the request to the Collection Development Librarian.  If you need a copy of the library order form, look on the library’s FORMS WEB PAGE at http://library.mwsu.edu/forms/.  Items that are being charged to a department's book account should show both the requestor's name and also the signature of the department's library liaison.   Please remember that under normal conditions the library requires 2 to 3 months to process an order, receive it, and then catalog it. In some cases we can shorten that time, but please order materials you need for the next semester as early as possible.  If a book is a Rush Order please indicate that on your written order form.

How Can I Find Out the Status of My Orders? (For Faculty Members)

They are a number of ways to determine the current status of a book/item you have ordered.

            1. You may call the Collection Development Librarian, phone # 940-397-4169, and ask them to check on the status of your request.

            2.  You might look in the library’s online catalog, Voyager at http://tejas.mwsu.edu.  If the book is "On Order" it means it has been ordered but not arrived in the library yet; "In Process" means that it has arrived but is not completely catalogued yet.  If the book is not listed at all you would want to call the Collection Development Librarian.

How Do I Suggest a Book/Item for the Library Collection? (For Non-Faculty Members)
Students who wish to suggest books, journals or media ideas for the library can use the online Materials Request Form at http://webforms.mwsu.edu/TakeSurvey.aspx?SurveyID=m2KK952

The request will be sent to the Collection Development Librarian.   We also have blank book request forms in the library on the 1st floor next to the Suggestion Box.  Fill one out and drop it in the Suggestion Box.

Who Are the Library Liaisons for Each Department?

The following is the 2011-2012 list of Library Liaisons for the departments.    Library orders that are coming out of the various departmental budgets need to be countersigned by the faculty liaison for that department.

How Can I Find Out What New Books the Library Has Received in the Last Month?

An enhancement to Voyager at http://tejas.mwsu.edu is a tab for New Books.  If you are interested in seeing what new books and other items have just arrived in the library, click on the New Books tab.

Books are only listed in the New Books tab for approximately one month after it arrives.  A book that has just arrived from the publisher will be listed as "In Process" and it will not have a call number.  After it is given its barcode, it will appear in the NEW BOOKS section of Voyager for one (1) month.  Although all books are processed as rapidly as possible it might take from one (1) to two (2) weeks to move completely through cataloging.  If you need a book that says "In Process", or, if the item is from the New Books section but it is not on the shelves, or checked out, please contact the Collection Development librarian and they will check to be sure it is not still in the cataloging department.  We will put a RUSH Cataloging Request on the item.  That means the item will probably be completely catalogued and ready for you to check out in from one (1) to two (2) additional days.  You will be notified when it is ready.

How Can I Make a Gift of Books or a Memorial to the Library?

If you would like to donate books to the library you can contact the Collection Development librarian or study the library policy on gifts and donations at http://library.mwsu.edu/policies/giftpol.asp   All gifts are accepted with the understanding that the library staff will study the items and add them to the collection if they meet the requirements of our Collection Development Policy.

If you would like to make a donation to Moffett Library in honor/memory of someone, you may contact either the Collection Development Librarian directly or the Office of Donor Service, http://web.mwsu.edu/donations/waystogive.asp.   The librarians will select an appropriate book/item with your gift and add it to our collection. A nameplate will be added to the item to indicate that it was purchased in honor/memory of the person you named.
