Interlibrary Loan Policies
Cost:
• Interlibrary Loan service is free to authorized users
• ILL makes every attempt to borrow items from libraries that do not charge fees. However, some
libraries do charge fees for some items. The borrower is responsible for all charges assessed
by the lending library
• Documents printed for delivery cost ten (10) cents per page. Other costs may apply if the
lender adds charges. The borrower is responsible for all charges
• ILL items lost or damaged will be charged to the borrower
Delivery Time:
• Allow at least two (2) to three (3) weeks for item delivery
• ILL requests are processed the next business day after received in the ILL office
• Exact delivery date is determined by the response of the lending library so cannot be
guaranteed
Loan Periods
• Loan periods are determined by the lending library
• Requests for renewals must be submitted to the Interlibrary Loan office
• Items marked "In Library Use Only" must not leave the building
Materials Available:
• Available materials are determined by the lending library's policies
• Books, manuscripts, computer data files, maps, computer programs, musical scores, films and
slides, newspapers, journals, sound recordings, magazines, and videotapes may potentially be
available
• Photocopies from non-circulating materials, such as journals, newspapers, chapters from
books, may be requested for Document Delivery in accordance with copyright laws
• Article requests will be delivered via e-mail in .pdf format
• Adobe Acrobat is required to access .pdf files, download for free ![]()
Materials Not Available (usually):
• Course Textbooks
• Course Reserves
• Fragile Items
• Rare or valuable books or items
• Reference materials
Notification:
• Requestors will be notified by phone or email upon receipt of ILL item
• Documents may be delivered by email, or held at the Circulation Desk by pre-arrangement
• Patrons will be notified of any requests that cannot be filled in a reasonable amount or time
or other problems
Overdue Fees:

Request ILL Materials:
• Requests may be submitted by MSU students, staff or faculty
• Undergraduates are limited to a maximum of five (5) submissions per calendar month
• Undergraduates may not request current textbooks
• Request a book or other item via FirstSearch WorldCat or the Interlibrary Loan Form
• Request a copy of a book chapter or individual articles in journals, magazines, or newspapers
via Academic Search Complete or the Interlibrary Loan Form
